Fratelli Aprile Il Olio Novello 274th 2010 Harvest Extra Virgin Olive Oil (Italy)

    Price: 29.95
    CyberCucina.com

This generation of Fratelli Aprile (the Aprile Brothers) consists of Roberto and Daniele who inherited not only the business but the passion and respect for the land which generously provides for them. They are strongly tied to their region of Sicily and the Irminio River which runs through the whole of Southeast Sicily before flowing into the Mediterranean Sea.

Fratelli Aprile extra virgin oils are monocultivar, which means they are obtained by crushing a single variety of olives, in total purity. This process provides oils with unique aromas and a refined flavour and an acidity level of 0.18%. Moreover the entire oil production process takes place within the firm to guarantee a superior quality. Biancolilla cultivar olives are hand-picked at the correct stage of maturation, from October 1 to November 15, and are carefully selected and continuously cold-pressed within six hours of harvesting.

The oil is referred to as 274th Biancolilla because October 1st is the 274th day according to the Gregorian calendar, but it is also the first calendar day according to olives' rhythm. It is the beginning. It is the first taste, the most delicate. It is the promise of adventure, of travel. It is the evidence of the great and difficult work of nature, but also the proof of nature's generosity of time.

Fratelli Aprile Il Novello 274th has a color of gold, with green reflections.

Its smell is persistent, characterized by an olive aroma mixed with fresh grass, thistle, basil and green tomato.

Its taste is delicate, harmonious, well-balanced, pleasantly spicy and bitter, with a sweet almond and herbaceus aftertaste.

Each bottle of Fratelli Aprile Il Novello 274th Biancolilla Cultivar contains 500ml or 17 fl.oz.

Frantoio di Montecroce "Gentile" (Sweet Taste) Extra Virgin Olive Oil (Case of 12 Bottles)

    Price: 190.80
    CyberCucina.com

Mention the Italian Lake Garda and many things come to mind. It is Italy's largest lake with the distance around it measuring 158km. Its shoreline is dotted with picturesque villages and its diverse landscape contains beaches as well as rocky cliffs. It is known for its clear water, perfect for swimming, windsurfing, and sailing.

But the Lake Garda region holds a secret, which we were fortunate enough to discover on our latest scouting trip. It is home to some of the finest olive oils we have encountered in our travels. Lake Garda area is responsible for only 1% of the oil production of Italy, so its bottling are limited and most are maintained for local consumption. But the Frantoio di Montecroce has expanded enough in recent years to offer their rare pressings to the select few who have had the pleasure of tasting their beautiful golden elixir.

The Montecroce Old Mill was built 50 years ago in the middle of the green hills south of Lake Garda just outside the town of Desenzano. There the Ramanzini family process the olives from their own land as well as a careful selection of olives from smaller surrounding cultivations. The predominant olives of the region are Leccino, Casaliva, Pendolino, Frantoio, Maurino, and Moraiolo. Their palate, instinct, and many years of experience motivate the particular blends they create with various combinations of these olives creating a perfectly balanced taste. The traditional stone mill wheels are still used, but have now been integrated with the newer refinishers, which produce a more consistent product.

We are so excited about Montecroce that we have decided to carry all four of their Extra Virgin Olive Oils: Corposo (Full Taste), Gentile (Sweet Taste), Delicato (Delicate Taste) and their finest Black Label Garda Bresciano DOP.

Montecroce Gentile (Sweet) has a very simple aroma with a sweet bouquet, however the taste remains surprisingly rich and varied, with hints of vegetables and herbs. There is a slight hint of almonds and a spicy, well-balanced after-taste, leaving a fulfilling yet clean sensation. With its very low acidity, it is easy on the digestion and is quite suitable for a variety of dishes including fish, salad and desserts. The predominant olive varieties used are Leccino, Casaliva, Pendolino, and Frantoio.

Each bottle of Frantoio di Montecroce Sweet Taste EVOO contains 500ml or 17oz.

When you order this item you will receive one case of 12 - 17oz bottles of Frantoio di Montecroce Sweet Taste EVOO.

This product is specially ordered from our supplier. As a result, please allow 5-7 days processing time before shipment to you.

The DOP certification (Protected Denomination of Origin) requires a very serious and precise approach to the olive oil making process. It is constantly supervised by its own Consortium and by a Certificating Body on the basis of a production discipline which is among the strictest in Italy. The regulations establish permitted olive varieties, registration of the groves, the boundaries of the production area, the maximum production per hectare and the chemical and organoleptic parameters. Certification requires an obligatory organoleptic evaluation carried out by a group of expert tasters (panel test). This evaluation results in the oil being assigned a score. Only oils with a score of seven or greater can use the name DOP.

The Montecroce Garda Bresciano DOP is green to yellow in color. Its taste is fruity with a slight bitter and spicy sensation and an almond aftertaste. The subtle nuances of aroma and taste include aromatic herbs such as sage and rosemary, green leaves, pine, apple, banana, vanilla, tomato, lettuce and artichoke. Its taste is elegant and pleasantly sweet, immediately followed by a body of significant depth.

The predominant olive varieties are Casaliva, Frantoio, Leccino and Pendolino. Garda Bresciano DOP is excellent for preparing appetizers and for finishing fresh and saltwater fish such as whitefish.

Each bottle of Frantoio di Montecroce Garda Besciano DOP EVOO contains 500ml or 17oz.

Olio Verde Unfiltered Extra Virgin Olive Oil, 2010 Harvest (Italy)

    Price: 34.85
    CyberCucina.com

In the gentle uplands of northwestern Sicily, Gianfranco Becchina's estate is set on an ideal location. Sixty acres of olive groves, some situated on the grounds once used by Princess Pignatelli of Spain, roll away behind the estate walls. The olives are mostly Nocellara del Belice, with Bianco Lilla and others mixed in and are not chemically treated in any way.

Some of the trees are 300-year old stock from which younger trunks are grafted. A spring is tapped to deliver water directly to each tree through an elaborate irrigation system. Becchina's method of hand picking each olive during the white phase (the two week period, usually in early October, in which the green olives are coated with a light whitish sheen) is considered too early for harvest by many, but Becchina seeks those strong green flavors for his oil. Olio Verde's intense, full flavor and dense green hue are the result of such a process.

The olives are stone-ground under huge millstones and then gently pressed. The unfiltered oil is stored in rotund terracotta amporae until spring, naturally clarifying itself. The oil is never filtered leaving the chlorophyll suspended in the minute particles of sediment acting as a natural preservative.

Olio Verde Unfiltered Extra Virgin Olive Oil has a medium green but dense hue with a notably vegetal nose. Its intense, full flavor is redolent of fresh-cut grass with a fresh green olive vivacity. The 1998 winner of the Oustanding Oil catergory at the N.A.S.F.T. Fancy Food Show in New York, Olio Verde is traditionally drizzled over fresh greens, grilled meats or toasted Italian bread.

Each bottle contains 16.9 fluid ounces of Olio Verde Unfiltered Extra Virgin Olive Oil from Italy.
