farmers use approximately 23% of the world's insecticides and 10% of the world's
pesticides in growing their crops. U.S. cotton farmer's are the largest users
consuming about 35% of the total. These are long lived compounds that not only
harm workers but, leach, into soil and ground water killing fish, livestock and
disrupting reproductive cycles. Cotton also is a heavy user of chemical
fertilizers most of which are petrochemical based products.
